Nomadic Wildling Media Presents
Tyler McKinney has always been drawn to the horizon. A nomadic documentary series where each episode begins with a question and the road leads to the answers.
What this is
Voices of Resilience is a documentary road series where each episode begins with a central question that challenges biases and perspectives. Travelling across Indigenous communities across Treaties 6, 7 & 8, we meet Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community voices whose perspectives reshape Tyler's understanding of resilience in a rapidly changing world.
The series is about curiosity, connection, and the adaptation of traditional Indigenous culture in an ever-changing world. It is built around universal questions and human-centred storytelling — a format designed to travel far beyond Alberta.
Why we're doing this
Audiences today are hungry for authenticity and adventure. They want real people asking meaningful questions in a time of filters and performances. They're drawn to diverse cultural stories, nomadic storytelling (VanLife!), and exploration of new lands and perspectives.
Voices of Resilience sits at the crossroads of it all. This show speaks to audiences searching for identity, community, direction, and growth. It offers a journey where vulnerability is celebrated and wisdom transcends cultural biases.
Who's behind this
Tyler McKinney is Cree, Métis, Vietnamese, and Chinese. He is also Two-Spirit. Culture was never passed down to him — and Voices of Resilience began as a direct response to that journey. A space to hold questions he didn't grow up with answers to.
With over a decade of photography and videography experience, two funded seasons through TELUS STORYHIVE, and three years facilitating the I Am a Kind Man initiative with Indigenous men and youth, Tyler brings humility and a willingness to learn through listening.
Produced by Guillermo Barraza through Nomadic Wildling Media, with guidance from Elders and Knowledge Keepers across Treaties 6, 7, and 8.
How we're doing it
Season 3 of Voices of Resilience is going nomadic. Fully on the road. To do that, we need a vehicle — a mobile studio and home base that goes where the stories are.
We're raising $5,000 CAD on Kickstarter to fund the vehicle that makes this season possible. Every dollar goes directly toward getting the team on the road, capturing stories that deserve to be told.
